The Duntocher Charitable Foundation is a community based initiative aimed at providing assistance to individuals or families who find themselves in need of support due to serious illness or other life-changing events. The Foundation is also keen to assist children of affected families in such circumstances and to ensure their education is allowed to continue in as normal a way as is reasonably possible.
Although supporting individuals within the local community will be the main focus of the charity, support will also be made available to other Charitable Organisations in the Clydebank and Duntocher area which have similar aims to the Foundation.
Fundraising is carried out through various means including Golf Days, Speakers’ Nights and other Social Nights as well as through monthly subscriptions. If you would like to donate you can do so here. If you are thinking about fundraising whether it be running a marathon or holding a coffee morning and would like to discuss involving the Foundation please contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with you.
Although the Duntocher Charitable Foundation was only officially established in 2016 the members of the community involved had been raising funds for charity for some years.
Following the tragic loss of a dear friend Stephen Burns (Burno) after his long battle with cancer, it was felt that something should be done to honour his memory and to give something back to St Margaret’s of Scotland Hospice who had provided outstanding care to Stephen in his final days. A group of Stephen’s friends, including John Geegan, decided to do the West Highland Way in the hope of raising a few thousand pounds as a token of thanks to the hospice. The venture was a huge success with over £20,000 raised for the hospice.
Sadly John was also to lose his own battle with cancer some time after.
The work done by this charity is done in the name of these two special friends.
